The article explains the necessity of the ideas of "green chemistry" for the chemistry course both in a general and in professional educational institutions. It analyzes the modern state of the problem including Russian education. As a methodological basis of teaching "green chemistry" we propose a system-axiological approach which contributes to a chemical-environmental competence of students.
