Rating system is a powerful tool for a better and more objective assessment of the received knowledge and skills, as well as personal qualities of a student. The system makes it possible to strengthen students’ work considerably and make it more uniform for the whole term for all disciplines. The rating system contains a great deal of configurable parameters. Some of them are the same for the entire University, and other parameters are selected by departments for their disciplines. The effectiveness of the rating system depends on how well these parameters have been chosen. This work looks at options and common principles of their choice.
